How to Fax Form 4506-T (Tax Transcript) in 2026
There is no single Form 4506-T fax number. RAIVS routes by the state on the return: Austin 855-587-9604, Ogden 855-298-1145, Kansas City 855-821-0094. The IRS mails the transcript — it does not fax it back.
There is no single Form 4506-T fax number. Form 4506-T (Request for Transcript of Tax Return) is routed to a Return and Income Verification Services (RAIVS) team by the state you lived in — or the state your business was in — when that return was filed. Individual transcripts (Form 1040 series, Form W-2, Form 1099) use one chart. All other transcripts use another.
This guide quotes the live Where to file addresses for filing Form 4506-T tables (page last reviewed 13 August 2026; re-checked 13 September 2026) and Form 4506-T (Rev. 4-2025, HTTP 200 the same day). The IRS says some addresses on that page may not match the printed form because the site was updated after the PDF went to print. Use the live where-to-file page, not a saved chart. Routing can change without notice. Re-check IRS.gov the day you send.
Faxing Form 4506-T sends the request. The IRS does not fax the transcript back. Get your tax records and transcripts (last reviewed 27 June 2026; the page does not mention fax) describes online download, mail, and phone. The form itself says that effective July 2019 the IRS mails tax transcript requests only to your address of record.
What is the Form 4506-T fax number?
Form 4506-T asks the IRS for a transcript — tax return, tax account, record of account, wage and income, or a verification of non-filing letter — not a photocopy of the return.
The live where-to-file page publishes three RAIVS fax numbers, not one nationwide line. Pick the chart that matches the product, then the state on that return.

855 numbers are US toll-free. The live where-to-file page does not publish a separate international Form 4506-T fax. If you are transmitting from outside the United States and an 855 line will not complete, use the mail address for your row instead of inventing another number.
This post is the dedicated Form 4506-T walkthrough. The IRS fax numbers directory still flags 4506-T as “verify on IRS.gov”; use this page for the live RAIVS tables. For the broader fax-to-IRS hub, see How to fax the IRS in 2026.
Form 4506-T vs Form 4506 (do not merge them)
| Form | What you get | Typical path |
|---|---|---|
| Form 4506-T | A transcript (line items / account data). Identity fields are partially masked; financial data stays visible. | Fax or mail to the RAIVS team on the live chart. IRS transcript types page: offered at no charge. |
| Form 4506 | A photocopy of the return (and attachments, if you request the return). | Separate form. The IRS tells you to refer to Form 4506 for that form’s processing time and fee. Do not invent a copy fee here. |
A transcript is not a photocopy. If a lender, school, or court wants a stamp-copy of the filed return, that is Form 4506 — not this slug.
Form 4506-T-EZ (mentioned on the Get Transcript page) covers only the tax return transcript by mail. This walkthrough is Form 4506-T.
Form 8821 (Tax Information Authorization) is a different tool: it lets someone inspect or receive confidential tax information. It does not request a transcript and it does not authorize representation. See Instructions for Form 8821 (page last reviewed 30 April 2026) for TIA rules. For a power of attorney, use Form 2848 — do not fax a 4506-T when what you need is a CAF authorization.
The IRS does not fax the transcript back
This is the rule that trips online-fax senders.
- You may fax (or mail) Form 4506-T to the RAIVS number on the live chart.
- The IRS delivers the transcript online (Individual Online Account / Get Transcript), by mail to your address of record, or — for some tax-return / tax-account transcripts — after you call 800-908-9946.
- The live Get Transcript page (re-checked 13 September 2026) does not mention fax as a delivery method.
- Form 4506-T (Rev. 4-2025) line 5 note: effective July 2019, the IRS mails tax transcript requests only to your address of record. If line 3 (current address) differs from line 4 (address on the last return) and you have not updated the IRS, file Form 8822 (individuals) or Form 8822-B (business) first.
A timestamped fax receipt proves the request reached a receiving terminal. It is not a transcript.
How to prepare Form 4506-T before you fax
Use the current PDF from IRS.gov: Form 4506-T (Rev. 4-2025; HTTP 200 on 13 September 2026). Confirm the live revision the day you file. About Form 4506-T was last reviewed 11 September 2026.
The form says: do not sign unless all applicable lines have been completed.
- Lines 1a / 1b — Taxpayer on the return. Name shown first on a joint return; SSN, ITIN, or EIN (use the EIN if the request is for a business return — even if that return included a Schedule C).
- Lines 2a / 2b — Spouse. Complete only for a joint return.
- Line 3 — Current address. Include a P.O. box if you use one. If incarcerated, include inmate identification number, name, and address.
- Line 4 — Prior address if it differs from line 3. Update the IRS with Form 8822 / 8822-B when the addresses differ and you have not already changed your address of record.
- Line 5 — Customer file number (optional). Up to 10 numeric characters that will print on the transcript. Do not put an SSN here — the form says an SSN, name, or combination is discarded and replaced with a generic
9999999999. - Line 6 — One tax form number per request (1040, 1065, 1120, and so on), then check 6a return transcript, 6b account transcript, or 6c record of account.
- Line 7 — Verification of non-filing if that is what you need. Current-year requests are available only after June 15. Prior years have no that restriction on the form.
- Line 8 — Wage and income (W-2 / 1099 / 1098 / 5498 series). Current-year information-return data is generally not available until the year after it is filed with the IRS. For a copy of a W-2 or 1099 attached to a return, the form points you to Form 4506.
- Line 9 — Year or period in
mm/dd/yyyy(for example12/31/2024for a calendar-year 2024 Form 1040). Enter each quarter for quarterly returns.
If you are unsure which transcript type you need, the form’s general instructions say to request the Record of Account.
Signature block
- Sign and date. The IRS must receive Form 4506-T within 120 days of the signature date or it will be rejected.
- Check the box in the signature area acknowledging authority to sign. The form says it will not be processed — and will be returned — if that box is unchecked.
- Joint returns: transcripts may go to either spouse; one signature is enough. Sign exactly as the name appeared on the original return; if you changed your name, also sign the current name.
- A representative may sign only if the taxpayer delegated that act on Form 2848 line 5, and the representative must attach that Form 2848.
- Entities other than individuals must attach the authorization document (for example letters testamentary, or a letter from a principal officer).
How to fax Form 4506-T
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| FAX CHECKLIST (DAY YOU SEND) |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
| 1. Open IRS.gov where-to-file Form 4506-T (not the printed PDF chart)|
| 2. Pick individual vs all-other chart, then the state on that return |
| 3. Signed, dated Form 4506-T; authority box checked; within 120 days |
| 4. High-contrast PDF (typed or 300+ DPI black-and-white scan) |
| 5. Cover sheet: Form 4506-T, name, TIN last-4, year(s), page count |
| 6. Fax 855-587-9604 / 855-298-1145 / 855-821-0094 from the live row |
| 7. Save the transmission receipt — the IRS mails the transcript |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Re-check the live tables on Where to file Form 4506-T immediately before you transmit. Do not rely on the Rev. 4-2025 PDF chart, a lender cheat sheet, or this post after the IRS updates the page.
- Use a clean PDF. RAIVS intake is scanned. Typed forms beat handwriting. If you wet-ink sign a printout, scan in black and white at 300 DPI or higher. Straight pages, dark ink, no gray photo backgrounds.
- Add a short cover sheet. Form name (Form 4506-T), taxpayer name, last four of SSN/EIN, tax year(s), page count, date, and a callback number. Keep full SSNs off the cover; they belong on the form pages that already request them.
- Send to the matching 855 number from the live row (
855-587-9604,855-298-1145, or855-821-0094). - Keep proof. A cloud-fax delivery receipt (timestamp, page count, called number, receiving-terminal handshake) is the record you control on send day.
You can use the Form 4506-T filing tool ($9.99) or upload a signed PDF from Send or receive a fax without a machine or a phone line. SingleFax transmits the request; it does not receive the transcript from the IRS.
Faster alternatives (when you are not faxing)
The form’s tip and the Get Transcript page both point here first:
- Individual Online Account / Get Transcript — view, print, or download. The IRS calls this the fastest method. Availability of the current-year transcript depends on how you filed and whether you had a balance due.
- Get Transcript by mail — tax return or tax account transcript mailed to the address on your latest return. The IRS says allow 5 to 10 calendar days.
- Automated phone — 800-908-9946 for a tax return or tax account transcript by mail (same 5-to-10-calendar-day note on the Get Transcript page).
Use Form 4506-T when those channels do not cover the transcript type or year you need (older years, wage-and-income when the online tool cannot generate it, verification of non-filing for older years, many business transcripts). Lenders that participate in the IRS IVES program request transcripts through that channel — search IVES on IRS.gov; do not treat IVES as a public fax number.
After you fax: processing and mail
Live Form 4506-T (Rev. 4-2025) says most requests will be processed within 10 business days (return transcript, account transcript, record of account, verification of non-filing, and wage-and-income lines each repeat that sentence). That is IRS processing time after the form is received — not a promise about postal delivery.
The IRS then mails the transcript to your address of record. Do not expect a return fax.
If line 3/4 addresses do not match the IRS file, the request can stall or go to the wrong mailbox. Fix the address of record before you send.
Frequently asked questions
What is the form 4506-t fax number?
There is no single nationwide number. As of the 13 August 2026 where-to-file review (re-checked 13 September 2026), the live RAIVS tables list 855-587-9604 (Austin — individual chart, listed states / foreign / territories / APO-FPO), 855-298-1145 (Ogden), and 855-821-0094 (Kansas City). Which one you use depends on individual vs all-other and the state on that return.
Does the IRS fax my transcript back to me?
No. You fax the request. The IRS mails (or posts online) the transcript. Get Transcript does not list fax as a delivery method.
Can I e-file Form 4506-T?
The form and the Get Transcript page describe online Get Transcript / Individual Online Account, mail, phone, and submitting Form 4506-T. They do not describe a standalone MeF e-file for Form 4506-T. Fax or mail is the paper path the IRS publishes for that form.
Is there a fee for Form 4506-T?
The IRS transcript types page says the listed transcript types are offered at no charge. A photocopy of a return is Form 4506 and has its own fee — quote that form the day you file; do not reuse an old dollar amount from a blog.
How many years can I request?
Quote the live form the day you send. On Rev. 4-2025: return transcripts are available for the current year and returns processed during the prior three processing years; record of account is current year plus three prior tax years; wage-and-income data may go back as far as 10 years, with current-year information generally not available until the year after it is filed. Enter each year on line 9 in mm/dd/yyyy format. One tax form number per request.
Do I fax Form 4506-T to the same number as Form SS-4 or Form 2848?
No. See the IRS fax numbers directory, Form SS-4 by fax, Form 2553 by fax, and Form 2848 by fax.
