Is Dropbox Fax free?

The free pages are a starter allowance attached to a new account. Dropbox says you can earn up to 20 extra pages by completing quick actions or sharing, taking the total to 25. That total is earned once; it does not refill each month.

A useful way to evaluate the allowance is to count the whole packet you intend to send. A one-page form and a separate cover can consume more than one counted page. Check the sending preview and remaining allowance before relying on a free send for a deadline.

Receiving is a separate need. A starter sending quota does not provide a permanent number where someone can fax you back. Dropbox's paid plans include a fax line. SingleFax offers a free 24-hour receiving number, subject to its inbound allowance, and paid number products for longer use.

A free option can be the right choice for a small, ordinary document. It becomes less useful if registration, quota limits, or lack of receiving support prevent you from completing the whole task.

Dropbox Fax pricing: pay-as-you-go and plans

The live pricing page, checked 8 October 2026, displays Home Office, Professional, and Small Business. The monthly view shows introductory prices followed by the ongoing rates below. Annual billing is a separate selection; compare its full commitment in checkout rather than assuming the monthly figures describe an annual invoice.

The pricing FAQ lists $0.05 per extra page sent or received after a paid plan's monthly allowance. That is different from the $0.20 extra-page rate on pay-as-you-go. Do not use the subscription overage rate to calculate a one-time fax.

The table is a snapshot of the public page, not a promise about every account or promotion. Confirm tax, region, number availability, billing term, and renewal rate before you subscribe. Introductory discounts reduce the first payment; they do not make every later month cost the same amount.

For a team, also check who can access received documents and whether you need multiple numbers or porting. SingleFax now offers free eligible US/Canada local port-in on Standard and Business, monthly or annual, including HIPAA Secure. Lifetime and 30-day plans do not accept port-ins. Port-out costs $10 regular or $150 vanity, prepaid and fully refunded after confirmed failure or cancellation. The cheapest plan is only useful if its workflow supports the people who actually handle the faxes.

HelloFax and Dropbox Fax: the same product?

Yes. HelloFax is the older product name. You may encounter it in legacy links, login references, integrations, or older reviews. Current pricing and help documentation use Dropbox Fax. Dropbox Sign handles electronic signatures and has its own plans and compliance terms.

That distinction matters when following instructions. A Dropbox Sign tutorial does not necessarily describe a Fax setting, and a storage subscription does not automatically establish an included fax allowance. Start from the Fax product's pricing and help pages when deciding what to buy.

For documents in a cloud drive, you can choose between connecting the drive to a provider and downloading the specific file you need. Connecting can help a recurring team workflow. Downloading a PDF and uploading it for one fax can be simpler when you do not need ongoing access to the entire drive.

Is Dropbox Fax secure? What about HIPAA?

Dropbox's privacy guidance for Sign and Fax directs users to its Trust Center and privacy policy for security practices, data handling, and deletion requests. Those are useful sources for evaluating a provider; a familiar brand name alone does not answer every document-handling question.

For healthcare, the more specific source is Dropbox's audited-features document, posted 15 July 2026 and checked 8 October. Its Dropbox Fax row lists HIPAA support as “No.” The same document treats other Dropbox products separately.

Do not carry a Dropbox Sign or file-storage BAA over to Fax by assumption. If your organization handles protected health information, have the responsible person confirm the exact product, account, contract, and receiving workflow before uploading it. Encryption and a confidentiality sentence on a cover do not replace a required BAA.

SingleFax's HIPAA fax product is a separate secure flow. Select that product and complete its BAA step when required. Keep medical details off the cover and email subject, and verify the recipient's fax number directly with the office.

For ordinary personal documents, practical precautions still matter: use your own device, verify the destination, avoid shared account credentials, and save confirmation somewhere private. A successful transmission does not prove the recipient filed or acted on the document.

These examples compare ordinary sending, not HIPAA add-ons, receiving plans, taxes, or international rate multipliers. SingleFax's final destination quote is authoritative. A cover added by its composer is excluded from billed document pages; a cover already merged into an uploaded PDF is part of that document.

The numbers show why there is no universal winner. Dropbox's unused free pages can make a short fax cost nothing. Once that allowance is gone, both services have the same base rate up to 10 pages. Beyond 10 pages, the extra-page formula becomes more important.

When Dropbox Fax is the better choice

Consider Dropbox Fax when you already use its document workflow, need regular inbound faxes, and want a monthly allowance shared by a team. A central account can reduce repeated uploading and provide a consistent place to handle incoming documents.

Evaluate it with a representative packet and a receiving workflow before committing. Check whether staff can find the fax, identify its owner, and export the confirmation. For organizations, those everyday steps can matter more than saving a few cents on one outgoing document.

A no-account alternative for one fax

For a one-time fax, open the SingleFax send page, upload your document, enter the verified destination and your email, review the packet, and authorize payment. Up to 10 document pages starts at $0.99. If delivery fails, the charge is $0; your bank may take time to release a pending authorization.

You do not need your own fax number just to send. If the recipient needs to reply, arrange a receiving number separately and include it in the appropriate field. Do not use a 24-hour number for a response expected next week.

Can I keep using the free pages every month?

No. The free sending pages are a one-time starter allowance. A paid subscription has its own monthly page bucket.

Is pay-as-you-go the same price as subscription overage?

Can Dropbox Fax receive faxes at more than one email address?
