Can you still fax at Kinko’s?

“Kinko's fax” searches refer to the business now called FedEx Office. FedEx's official history records its acquisition of Kinko's in 2004 and the FedEx Office name in 2008. Use the current brand and location information when planning a visit.

A generic FedEx shipping result does not establish access to an Office self-service copier. Use the FedEx Office location finder, then ask that branch whether faxing is available during your visit. Check the relevant service rather than only whether a map lists the business as open.

The official fax page says availability can vary. Tell the branch your destination country, page count and whether you have paper or a file on your phone. If receiving is the task, ask about incoming customer faxes separately.

How self-service faxing at FedEx Office works

FedEx's fax service page describes a copier workflow with on-screen guidance. The outline below combines that published process with preparation checks so you can verify the packet before starting.

1. Confirm the branch and prepare the packet

Call ahead for availability, hours and the complete quote. Bring the signed document and the recipient's current direct fax number. Ask how the store handles a digital file and whether printing or another preparation step adds a charge.

Check signatures and attachments before traveling. Count every document page, including informative backs of double-sided originals. The recipient's rules determine what belongs in the packet; the store's fax service does not validate an application for you.

2. Follow the payment pre-authorization

FedEx describes a pre-authorization based on the planned page count and says unused balance returns to the original payment method. It also lists cash payment cards available at the counter. Confirm the accepted method and displayed amount before proceeding.

A pre-authorization is different from the final amount charged. Keep the receipt and ask the branch about its policy for failed attempts, partial delivery and retries. Returning unused balance does not, by itself, establish that all unsuccessful fax attempts are free.

3. Place the document and enter the number

Follow the copier's loading diagram and on-screen fax prompts. Orientation depends on the equipment. Enter the destination exactly as instructed for that machine, including the required international format when applicable.

Check the number before starting, and ask for help if a department supplies only a voice extension. An office outside-line prefix is part of the sending setup, not part of the recipient's published number. Our fax number guide explains those distinctions.

4. Add the appropriate cover

FedEx lists a complimentary cover sheet. Use the recipient's own prescribed cover when it has one, and ask how transmitted covers affect the quoted page count. A short routing page can name the person or department, sender contact details and purpose.

Keep unnecessary sensitive information off the cover. If you want to prepare one before leaving, use the free PDF and Word cover tool. Say whether a written page total includes the cover so the recipient can reconcile the packet.

5. Keep the final transmission report

Wait for the final result and inspect the printed confirmation. Match the destination and pages against the intended packet. Keep that report with a copy of the exact document, as well as the payment record.

Collect all originals and copies before leaving. If the fax is incomplete, ask which pages may have arrived and what a retry costs. Contact the recipient if duplicate pages could confuse a case or application.

FedEx fax cost: why the local quote matters

FedEx's official page states that fax prices vary by store. It did not list a national per-page table when checked on 8 October 2026. Another provider's blog, an old customer report or a rate from a different branch is not a current quote for your packet.

Detail to confirmWhy you should ask
Destination countryLocal, long-distance and international pricing can differ
Document and cover countAsk which transmitted pages are billed
File preparationPrinting a phone file may be a separate service
Self-service or counter assistanceConfirm availability and the relevant quote
Failed or partial attemptClarify payment and retry terms before starting
Incoming fax pickupReceiving has its own availability and charges
Complete totalAsk about any tax or additional service charge

Describe the exact job, for example “six document pages plus a cover to this Canadian number.” The branch can quote that more usefully than an unspecified “fax.” Compare the complete quote with online sending for the same document and destination.

Do not use an advertised copying or printing rate as the fax rate. A fax involves transmission as well as any preparation. If you also need copies, binding or scanning, ask for those as separate items so you can decide which services you actually need.

Illustrative ten-page calculation

At a hypothetical $1.89 first-page rate plus $1.59 per additional page, ten billed pages would total $1.89 + (9 × $1.59) = $16.20 before tax or preparation. This is illustrative arithmetic, not a verified FedEx rate. Get your store’s current quote and compare it with the SingleFax destination quote, starting at $0.99 for ten document pages on ordinary routes.

Does FedEx charge if a fax fails?

Ask before the call starts. The national page's statement about returning unused pre-authorized balance describes a payment process, not an explicit blanket failed-delivery guarantee. Confirm how that store handles busy lines, no answer, interrupted calls and partial transmission.

If a send fails, keep the report and note the number and page count. A final failure may follow some pages arriving at the recipient. Before paying for another complete send, agree whether the recipient wants the full packet or only missing pages.

For comparison, SingleFax uses a pay-on-success model, with $0 on failed delivery. Use the payment rule for the actual destination rather than assuming all retail and online services work the same way.

Can you receive a fax at FedEx Office?

FedEx says some locations receive incoming customer faxes for pickup, with payment at the counter. Arrange the exchange with the branch before giving a number to the sender. Confirm the correct number, cover identifying details, pickup hours, rate and holding period.

Explain when you expect the fax. Ask how you will know it has arrived and what you need to collect it. If the sender may reply weeks later, make sure the receiving arrangement covers that timeframe rather than only the day you visit.

You can also use an online receiving number. SingleFax's free US number for 24 hours requires verified email and has one active number, up to three claims in a rolling 30 days and 25 free inbound pages across those claims. Extra faxes are held for paid viewing; this is not its HIPAA workflow.

For a longer window, $4.99 buys a 30-day number, with the first received fax included and additional receiving paid. Monthly or lifetime number options suit continuing contact details. Lifetime Basic is $97 with starter credit and further paid traffic, rather than unlimited receiving.

International faxing and staff assistance

The official service page lists local, long-distance and international faxing, while qualifying international availability by location. Check the actual destination and its number format with the branch. A country code and a sending machine's outside-line prefix are different things.

If you want help, FedEx says a team member can assist with an outbound fax at the counter, with local availability and pricing. Ask about that when calling ahead rather than arriving with an expectation of immediate counter service.

Leave time for queues and a busy receiving line when a deadline matters. Store hours do not guarantee that the recipient's machine will answer during the same period. A successful transmission is also separate from the recipient reading or processing the document.

Privacy on shared equipment

A retail visit can mean shared machinery or staff handling your packet. That is a reason to perform practical checks, rather than to label all store faxing unsafe. Verify the destination, minimize cover details and collect every page and report.

If you use a shared computer to open a file, sign out of your accounts and follow the store's instructions for removing local copies. Keep unrelated documents out of the transfer. Ask about incoming-document pickup handling before sending confidential material to a store number.

Covered entities and business associates sending PHI should confirm the required agreement and safeguards. SingleFax's HIPAA Secure web workflow is its relevant BAA route; its ordinary email gateway, guest sender and free receiving number are separate workflows.

Skip the trip: fax from your phone or computer

If you already have a clear document, open SingleFax Send, upload the files and enter the verified recipient number. Inspect the prepared pages, review the destination quote and payment terms, then complete checkout. The service supplies the fax connection.

Sending starts at $0.99 for up to ten document pages, with about $0.08 per extra page and $0 if delivery fails. A composer-generated cover is excluded from billed document pages; an uploaded or merged cover counts as a document page.

Keep the final result email rather than only the checkout receipt. If the task is receiving, arrange a number before the other party transmits. See fax from a phone, fax from a computer and fax near me to choose the route that fits your document and need for assistance.
