How to Fax From Your Phone

Yes, you can fax from your phone. Scan or save your document, upload it in a browser or send it through an email gateway or fax app. Your phone needs an internet connection; the online fax service calls the recipient’s fax number.

Send a fax from your phone. SingleFax ordinary sending starts at $0.99 for up to ten document pages, with $0 if delivery fails. Review the final quote for longer packets. Device instructions and product limits were checked on 8 October 2026.

Three ways to fax from a cell phone, at a glance

Choose around where the document is and whether you need a continuing inbox. A browser is convenient for one packet; email helps when the document is already saved from a message; an app can be useful for regular scanning and account history.

The recipient does not need the same phone or app. Each sending route produces a fax for their physical machine or online fax number. Your mobile voice number is not automatically a receiving fax number.

SingleFax's iOS app is under App Store review. Use Safari or email on iPhone for now. The Android app is live; the browser route is available on both platforms.

Before you start

Have the final signed document, the recipient's direct fax number and an email address where you can receive the result. Make sure the number is a fax line rather than the office switchboard. Verify it from current official instructions or a letter from the recipient.

If you start with paper, scan every page, including back pages that contain required information. A scan is just a digital file until you transmit it through a fax service. Saving to Photos, Drive or Files does not send it to the recipient.

Open the saved file and check page order. Names such as scan1 and scan2 can become difficult to distinguish in a small file picker; combine the packet into one PDF when practical and use a descriptive filename. Keep enough time to resolve a conversion or busy-line problem before a deadline.

Send from your phone browser, step by step

1. Save the complete document

Export an existing form as a PDF, or scan the paper with a document scanner on the phone. A supported photo also works, but inspect it for shadows and cropped edges. Check signatures and any attachments named in the form instructions.

Avoid photographing a computer screen when you can download the original document. Reflections, moiré patterns and tiny text can make a fax difficult to read. If you edit a Word document, open the final export before uploading rather than relying on the editing screen.

2. Open the send page and upload

Open the send page in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android. Choose Send if needed and select Upload documents. Select the saved PDF or supported image and wait while it uploads and converts.

A cloud-only file may need to download to the phone first. Make sure you can open the file in its storage app. A sharing link gives access to a document; it is not the actual document upload.

3. Enter the destination and review the packet

Choose the destination country or paste the international fax number. Enter the direct number with its area code, and remove an office extension or outside-line prefix. Online services do not need you to dial an office's 9 prefix.

Add your result email and check it carefully. If a cover helps routing, include the department, callback details and a brief subject. The cover sheet tool supplies free templates and a generator.

SingleFax excludes a cover generated by its web composer from billed document pages. A cover already merged into your uploaded file counts as part of that document. Review the packet to avoid an unintended duplicate cover.

4. Review payment terms and keep the final result

Read the quote for the actual destination and page count before paying. Sending starts at $0.99 for ten document pages, then about $0.08 per additional document page. Failed delivery costs $0; a pending authorization can remain visible until the bank releases it.

Complete checkout to start transmission. Keep the final result email with the document, rather than treating a payment receipt as proof of delivery. A delivered fax still does not establish that an agency approved an application or a staff member reviewed the packet.

iPhone: scan in Notes or Files, then use Safari

The quickest no-app route is to scan the pages and upload the saved PDF in Safari. Current Notes uses an Attachment control for Scan Documents; Files provides More → Scan Documents. Older iOS versions can present different controls, so follow the scan command rather than looking only for an old camera icon.

Finish and save the multi-page document before choosing it in Safari. Check the last page and all signatures. If the file is already a PDF attachment in your inbox, save that original instead of scanning a printed copy again.

Android: Chrome or the SingleFax app

On Android you can use Chrome with a saved PDF or install SingleFax from Google Play. The app supports scanning or uploading, sending and tracking faxes using your account. The browser route is useful when you need one fax without installing a dedicated app.

Google Drive's current Android scan instructions use the Camera control near the bottom right, rather than requiring the older New → Scan path. Capture and review the pages, then save as PDF for a multi-page packet. Download or select the actual file when faxing it.

Keep the account and payment distinctions clear: the app uses your account, while ordinary browser guest sending can proceed without registration. A free app download does not mean every fax is free. See the Android guide for the three sending routes and Samsung-specific preparation tips.

Email-to-fax from any phone

Compose a message to send@fax.delivery, put the recipient's number with country code in Subject, and attach actual documents. Keep the message within ten files and ten MB, leaving room for email overhead.

Send it, read SingleFax's reply, review the quote and complete its payment link. The message leaving your phone does not itself start the paid fax. This gateway always provides checkout; an email address that matches a SingleFax account does not automatically spend its credits.

Mail, Gmail and Outlook all work through this ordinary-message workflow. Avoid a Drive, OneDrive or Mail Drop link when the gateway needs an actual attachment. Read email-to-fax, Gmail faxing or Outlook faxing for the client details.

If the document is already in WhatsApp, SingleFax also offers a WhatsApp gateway with a quote and payment link. Keep ordinary email and WhatsApp separate from the HIPAA sending route.

Does Google Voice fax?

Do not use a Google Voice or ordinary mobile voice number as though it were this fax gateway or a dedicated fax inbox. This workflow sends through a fax provider, using its web page, app or email address. Your Google login and Gmail address can help you manage documents, but they do not assign a receiving fax number.

If an office asks for a fax number for replies, obtain one from a fax provider and verify its duration. Put your voice number in a callback field instead. A recipient needs to know which number actually accepts fax transmissions.

Receive faxes on your phone

Get a free US fax number for 24 hours, with no card required, and give it to the sender. Incoming faxes arrive as PDFs in your email. Open them on the phone and save the complete file if you need a local copy.

The number must remain active when the sender calls it. A 24-hour window may suit a reply you arranged for today; a $4.99 30-day number is more appropriate when an insurer, agency or office may reply later. Monthly plans and a $97 lifetime number serve continuing needs. Lifetime includes starter credit rather than unlimited fax traffic.

Use your receiving fax number on the form where requested. The mobile phone number associated with your device does not become a fax number merely because you installed an app.

Free receiving requires a verified email, with one active free number at a time, up to three claims per rolling 30 days and 25 free inbound pages across those claims. Extra faxes may be held for payment to view. The free tier is not HIPAA; the $4.99 30-day product includes its first received fax, with additional receiving charged under its terms.

Keep mobile scans readable

A phone screen can hide scan problems that become obvious on paper. Review at a comfortable reading size and check that every form field remains legible. Do not reduce the file until important text becomes blurred just to meet an attachment limit; use another upload route when appropriate.

Sensitive documents

Verify both the recipient and the service before transmitting sensitive information. Keep routing details on the cover brief and put required identifiers in the intended form fields. A confidentiality sentence alone does not provide access controls or establish a BAA.

Covered entities and business associates sending PHI should use HIPAA Secure fax on the web, from $6.50, with its electronic BAA and applicable safeguards. Ordinary send@fax.delivery and WhatsApp are separate routes.

For tax forms, use the IRS directory and form-specific instructions. For Social Security, verify the local office through the SSA guide; there is no national fax destination to prefill.

Troubleshooting phone faxing
