Financial Aid Fax Number: Use Your School’s Verification Instructions

The correct financial aid fax number is the one your school gives you for the requested documents. There is no national FAFSA verification fax. Even a school’s published general office fax may not be an accepted channel for verification.

We checked the examples below on October 7, 2026. Re-check the official page the day you send, and follow the request for your own aid year and student file.

School-specific examples

School and document routePublished fax or channelSend
Eastern Illinois University: requested FAFSA verification documents217-581-6422; attention Verification; include E-numberSend requested EIU verification documents
Lewis & Clark: requested financial aid verification documents503-768-7074; follow current form instructionsSend requested Lewis and Clark verification documents
Colorado Christian University: adult student verificationVerify My FAFSA portal only; no fax for verificationUse the school’s instructions

These numbers are examples for those schools, not fallback destinations for another college. If your school is absent, open its official financial aid site or use the contact details on your verification request. Send to a number the office confirms.

Read the verification request first

EIU’s verification instructions allow the listed fax and ask for the student’s E-number. Send only documents requested for your file. Lewis & Clark’s page describes verification submission options and requires handwritten signatures on its forms; check the current form before relying on a typed signature.

The requested documents and tax year depend on the school’s instructions for that aid year. Do not send a newer tax return in place of the specified year, or assume that a tax return and an IRS transcript are interchangeable. If the request is unclear, ask the office what exact document will satisfy the item.

Use the school’s reference or student ID to identify the packet. A cover sheet can include your name, student ID, aid year, callback details and page count. Keep unnecessary tax information off the cover and upload only the records the office requests.

A general fax does not override a portal-only rule

Colorado Christian University’s adult verification page is a useful example: it lists general office contact details, including a fax, but requires verification through Verify My FAFSA and explicitly says not to send those documents by fax, email, mail or personal delivery.

When a school requires its portal, use it. A successful fax to the office can still leave your verification task incomplete. The same distinction can apply to admission, scholarship, appeal or loan forms; each workflow may have a different channel.

Make the packet easy to review

Complete every required field and signature before scanning. Keep pages in the order the school requests. Check that both sides of a form are present, that tax documents are legible, and that no signature is cut off at the edge.

Do not add an entire financial history when the office requested one specific document. If a parent’s information is required, follow the school’s instructions for that person’s signature and evidence. Keep a copy of the exact packet so you can identify what was submitted if the office asks for a correction.

Send, then check the school’s status

For an accepted fax route, verify the destination, upload the packet and preview all pages. Standard domestic SingleFax sends start at $0.99 for up to 10 pages; you see the quote before payment and pay on successful delivery.

Save the receipt and check the school’s student portal or contact the office for receipt and review status. Transmission, document matching, verification completion and aid processing are separate steps. If an item remains outstanding, ask whether it is unreadable, incomplete or still awaiting review before resending everything.

For related identity paperwork, see birth certificate fax requests. State licensing notices belong in the DMV fax directory. A cover sheet template can help organize routing details without adding extra private records.

Common questions

No. Send verification documents to the school or office that requested them, using the channel on its current instructions. Do not fax them to a random federal or school directory number.
EIU’s checked FAFSA verification page lists 217-581-6422, attention Verification, and asks students to include their E-number. Send the documents requested for your own file.
Lewis & Clark’s checked verification page publishes 503-768-7074. Check its current forms, signatures and submission instructions before sending.
Not necessarily. Colorado Christian University’s adult verification page requires Verify My FAFSA and explicitly excludes fax, email, mail and personal delivery for those documents despite listing a general office fax.
Use the tax year and documents named in the school’s request for the applicable aid year. Do not infer the year from today’s date or send a different transcript simply because it is newer.
No. Check the school’s portal or office for receipt, completeness and review status. The school determines verification and aid processing; the fax receipt records transmission.
