Unemployment Appeal Fax: Find Your State’s Correct Filing Channel

An unemployment appeal fax number is state-specific. Start with the determination or hearing notice you received: it identifies the decision, deadline, permitted channel and receiving office. A fax listed for customer service is not automatic permission to file every appeal there.

The official sources below were checked on October 7, 2026. Re-check the official page the day you send and use the current instructions in your case.

State examples: fax is not always the filing channel

Colorado’s production page could not be read successfully during this check. That does not mean Colorado has no appeals fax. Confirm the current number through CDLE or your determination rather than relying on an archived handbook.

California EDD: follow the mail instructions

EDD’s checked page directs claimants to mail an Appeal Form DE 1000M, or an appeal letter, to the address on the determination. It describes a 30-day period from the notice’s mailing date and asks for an explanation if the appeal is late. Check your own notice for the applicable instructions.

Do not substitute a hearing office’s directory fax for that initial filing route. Later hearing correspondence may have its own instructions. EDD also says to continue certifying while the appeal is pending; follow the agency’s current requirements for your claim.

Minnesota: separate filing from hearing evidence

Minnesota’s contact page permits electronic, mail or fax appeals within the timeframe on the determination. Its hearing guide separately instructs parties to send evidence with the enclosed submission form five or more business days before the hearing, and mail copies to the opposing party. Use copies, redact private information as directed, and follow your hearing notice.

Those are different steps. An initial appeal challenges the decision; a later packet supports the hearing. Label the packet with the issue or appeal reference and its purpose so the office can place it correctly. If your notice changes the destination or timing, ask the appeals office which instructions apply.

Prepare the appeal packet

Read both sides of the determination before writing. Identify the specific decision you disagree with and explain why in clear, factual terms. Use the agency’s form when it provides one; complete the signature, date and contact fields it requires. Attach the determination and supporting pages requested by the instructions.

For your own records, keep the original notice, the exact submitted packet and a short log of the submission date, channel and any agency confirmation. Check scans for cut-off margins or an unreadable reverse side. A missing page can matter even when the transmission succeeds.

If fax is permitted, send to the confirmed office, preview the pages and check the quote before payment. Standard domestic sends start at $0.99 for up to 10 pages. Save the transmission receipt, then confirm the appeal was received and recorded by the agency. Do not wait until the last moment to discover a busy line or an incomplete form.

For hearing documents sent to a court instead of an unemployment agency, see court fax contacts. Other state-office submissions belong in the DMV fax directory or the specific agency’s instructions.

Common questions

No. Use the state agency and the determination you are appealing. Initial appeals, hearing evidence and later review stages may have different recipients.
The checked EDD instructions direct claimants to mail DE 1000M or a letter to the address on the determination. No general fax destination is provided for that initial appeal; follow the current notice.
Minnesota UI publishes 651-205-4007 and says appeals can be filed electronically, by mail or fax within the period on the determination. Confirm the instructions for your appeal stage.
Check CDLE and your current determination. We could not verify the current production-page fax during this check, so no Colorado number is prefilled. Use the destination and channel confirmed by CDLE.
It records the transmission result. The agency decides receipt, timeliness and acceptance under its rules. Confirm those details with the appeals office, especially near a deadline.
Follow the hearing notice. Minnesota’s hearing guide describes faxing or mailing evidence with its submission form and sending copies to the opposing party. A fax to the office alone may not satisfy all hearing requirements.
