Court Fax Number: Find the Clerk and Check Local Filing Rules

The right court fax number belongs to the court handling your case. Municipal, traffic, district, family and appellate courts can have different clerks, filing systems and rules. Start with the court name on your notice or case documents.

Check that court’s official site and ask the clerk whether your particular document may be faxed. A published fax number is a contact detail; the filing rules determine what it accepts. The example below was checked on October 7, 2026. Re-check the official page the day you send.

The court’s own page describes its municipal jurisdiction, including traffic and misdemeanor matters. It is not a destination for family petitions or a general Washington filing office.

Fife’s local rule FMLGR 17 permits fax filing subject to its stated exceptions and requires the original to replace the fax within five working days. It also calls for a notation identifying the fax submission date. Read the full current rule and confirm the document with the clerk before using the link. An original-document follow-up can remain necessary after successful transmission.

Find the clerk for your case

Use the exact court name and location from your citation, hearing notice or existing case. On the official court site, check both contact information and filing instructions. A clerk’s fax listed on a directory page may be intended for correspondence rather than new filings.

Tell the clerk the document type and case number. Ask about accepted channels, page limits, fees, signatures, originals, receipt cutoffs and how to obtain a filed copy. If electronic filing is required, use that system.

For a traffic or municipal case, follow that court’s instructions. For family matters, locate the court handling the family case. For a remote or Zoom appearance request, ask which form and channel apply and wait for the court’s decision. Sending a request does not change the scheduled appearance requirements by itself.

Prepare the permitted fax

Use the required case caption, number, signature and form. Include a cover sheet naming the clerk’s office, document, callback number and page count. Preview every page and keep a copy of the exact packet.

If the clerk confirms fax is permitted, send to the verified number. Standard domestic SingleFax sends start at $0.99 for up to 10 pages, with the quote shown before payment. Save the receipt and obtain confirmation of acceptance from the court. Court fees are separate.

Transmission does not establish filing, timeliness or service on other parties. Follow any original-document and service requirements independently. Near a deadline, confirm the filing channel and receipt cutoff with the clerk before relying on fax.

See faxing legal documents and cover sheet templates for packet preparation. A DMV notice belongs with the state driver or vehicle agency, and an unemployment appeal may go to an administrative appeals office instead of a court.
